A cold Winter dawn illuminates the calm waters of a small wetland in the Painted Hills of the John Day Fossil Bed National Monument , in Central Oregon. It is January 2006 and the peaceful stillness of this high desert scene is interrupted only by the occasional distant call of a Coyote.
