Hunziker-Travelers Rest

An historic sepia tone print of Lewis and Clark as they arrived at their now famous Travelers Rest camp site, June 30, 2006.

Two hundred years ago in the late afternoon of June 30th, the Lewis and Clark Expedition returned to the west side of the Bitterroot Mountains and to the campsite they called Travelers’ Rest. It so happened that 200 years later, on June 30th, I was at this site near Misoula, Montana and photographed the Lolo creek and the Lewis and Clark reenacters Bryant Boswell (Meriwether Lewis), and Peyton C. "Bud" Clark (the great, great, great grandson of William Clark). I don’t know that they were really standing at this particular spot along this creek, but I did find this large rock that has surely been there for at least 200 years. As official reenactors in the national 2003-2006 Lewis & Clark bicentennial commemoration, the Discovery Expedition retraced the entire waterway portion of the original 1803-1806 expedition east of the Rockies. The sepia tone effect and the rustic posterization give this print an air of authenticity which is what the Discovery Expedition is all about.
