Two deer resting on a green mossy hillside with a mountain lion peering through the trees, 2006
This luscious green mossy landscape is typical in the wooded mountain creek valleys of the northern United States. This moss covered rocky hill side is located in Lolo Forest, near Missoula, Montana. Rich color saturation, variety in texture and shadow detail all bring a mysterious quality to this woodsy print. At first the eye is drawn to the focal point of the restful deers in their cozy mossy bed and all seems quite contented. But the plot thickens as a large mountain lion is discovered lurking in the shadows just above them. Alas, the outcome of this pensive situation is left to the imagination, or maybe a sequel coming in the near future...perhaps, “The Great Escape,” or maybe, “The Food Chain Blues.”
