Two sea gulls soaring in a dramatic ocean sunrise, 2006

This classic seascape captures the imagination and inspires great hope in the dawning of a new day – OK, maybe a bit much for a mere picture, but then you never know. The minimal composition elements, comprising of sunrise, sea and gulls, and the deep monochromatic coloration creates a dramatic visual effect that begins to capture the impressive magnitude of an ocean side sunrise. The precarious positioning of the sea gulls, as they seem to be floating off the left side of the format, and the turbulent motion of the foreground waves work to add a dimension of tension and conflict. All-in-all, a great awakening and one of my own personal favorites.
