This studio and darkroom composition was created using an actual piece of onionskin as part of a "sandwich" with a black and white negative of onions photographed on a black background.

This studio and darkroom composition was created using an actual piece of onionskin as part of a "sandwich" with a black and white negative of onions photographed on a black background. When a photographic print is then made from the "sandwich", the onionskin holds back the light from the enlarger, (in varying amounts according to the density of the skin) producing a striking combination which earned the photographer a National Merit Award.
