Edgar Degas
Degas, a French impressionist sculptor and painter, is best known for his compositions of ballerinas, women and horse racing scenes. Unlike his Impressionist contemporaries, Degas was not fascinated with how natural light affected a piece. He was instead interested with movement and people. Degas was heavily influenced by close friend Manet as well as Japanese graphic art. Degas' 'Danseuses' depicts a line of dancers waiting behind the curtain for their cue. The ballerinas are exquisitely dressed in flouncy white tutus with red bows.
