Edgar Degas
Degas, a French impressionist sculptor and painter, is best known for his compositions of ballerinas, women and horse racing scenes. Unlike his Impressionist contemporaries, Degas was not fascinated with how natural light affected a piece. He was instead interested with movement and people. Degas was heavily influenced by close friend Manet as well as Japanese graphic art. Degas' 'Absinth-drinkers' features a man and a woman sitting at a table with glasses of absinth. The man appears to be rather unkempt as he dully stares into bar. The woman a once attractive red hed sits beside the man and dejectedly gaxes at her full glass. Degas is able to fuly convey the emotionality of the man and woman and presents a rather bleak existence.
