Edgar Degas
Degas, a French impressionist sculptor and painter, is best known for his compositions of ballerinas, women and horse racing scenes. Unlike his Impressionist contemporaries, Degas was not fascinated with how natural light affected a piece. He was instead interested with movement and people. Degas was heavily influenced by close friend Manet as well as Japanese graphic art. Degas' After the Bath' lovinglyrenders a young womandrying off after a refreshing bath. Her long chestnut hair tumbles over her nubile body while she gingerly towels off her feet. Degas' attention to detail adds an intimate appeal to this work of art.
