Edgar Degas
Degas, a French impressionist sculptor and painter, is best known for his compositions of ballerinas, women and horse racing scenes. Unlike his Impressionist contemporaries, Degas was not fascinated with how natural light affected a piece. He was instead interested with movement and people. Degas was heavily influenced by close friend Manet as well as Japanese graphic art. Degas' 'Ballet Class' tenderly portrays a class full of dancers being taught by a petite old man. The girls eagerly await instruction as they prepare for their turn to dance across the floor.
