Beach Pictures,

There is nothing inherently magical about a beach. It is merely the dividing line between land and water. Yet in our imaginations
we harbor romantic notions about the beach, we treasure it as something magical. At that dividing line, where we can see until sight
fails us, see until the curve of the earth pulls the horizon into dissolution under the expanse of sky, humans are irrevocably drawn.
Perhaps we share some collective and primordial memory-love-intrigue involving the beach. Regardless, beach pictures produced by
painters and photographers have been some of the most beautiful and popular pictures ever created.
Winslow Homer, renowned American naturalist and painter, retired from public life to a small fishing village in Maine and spent the
rest of his life painting ocean and beach pictures. Palm Tree at Nassau is one of his most dynamic, capturing the tension and movement
of the wind off the sea as it whips the palm fronds. Having seen the brutality of war and having spent time abroad in the Bahamas and
in Paris, Winslow Homer, in his declining years, chose the beauty and solace of painting beach pictures to pass the time.
A continent and a century away, photographers Dean Clark and J. Christopher have spent a few rolls of film taking beach pictures
on the West Coast. As a result of their location, they have been able to capture one of the most beautiful and magical natural
occurrences that can be witnessed by human eyes. Sunsets over the ocean can barely be expressed by written word, but make for some
of the most dazzling additions to our beach picture collection. In Sunset-Beach by Christopher, you can see the final conflagration
of a retiring sun filtering up through the atmosphere as it dissolves into the darkness of the ocean. A beach picture titled
Golden California Coastline by Clark is a celebration of light, orange and yellow, as it plays off of the rocky California coast, a
tribute the graceful intersections of day and night and ocean.
Mike Veitch, a photographer who has spent much time in the South Pacific photographing beach lines and reefs,
has contributed some particularly beautiful beach pictures. His Sunset over
Fiji shows the deep blues and purples resulting from the dusk light reflecting through the clouds. The explosions of reds and
oranges in his beach pictures, Sunset over Apataki and Beautiful Sunset, evidence the expert eye of this photographer. A more
traditional beach picture by Veitch, Beach and Palm Trees, juxtaposes the tradition greens of the verdant foliage with the barren
bleached sand and the depth of the blues of the ocean and sky. Whether you are a lover of photography or painting, our beach
picture collection is extensive and diverse. We are sure to have something for everyone here.
